JOB DESCRIPTION: Medical Assistant
The Center for Black Women’s Wellness (CBWW) is a community-based nonprofit organization that is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of Black women. The organization provides several comprehensive programs that are designed to educate, empower and inspire participants to make positive changes in their lives and the lives of their families.
POSITION OVERVIEW
CBWW offers women’s healthcare (GYN) through its Wellness Clinic, which normally operates four (4) days per week in a community-based setting. We also offer primary care services through our Safety Net Clinic. Our healthcare services are comprehensive in nature, to address the myriad of health needs and concerns of our underserved population. The Community Health Specialist is responsible for assisting the Nurse Practitioners in providing compassionate, quality health care to Wellness clinic patients. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Clinic Coordinator.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides medical assistance and patient care for the comfort, safety, and personal needs of our patients.
- Assists providers/nurse practitioners within our community healthcare setting
- Performs a variety of patient care services including the collection of blood work.
- Interviews patient, records patient medical history and other information related to the reason for visit
- Prepares patient for examination by performing and recording preliminary vitals such as blood pressure, temperature, weight, etc.
- Reports abnormal symptoms, unusual conditions, or adverse reactions to provider.
- Measures and records accurate vital signs.
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms for occupancy
- Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, sterilizing instruments as needed.
- Assists provider(s) with physical examination and treatments.
- Provides procedures and treatments as delegated by provider.
- Maintains patient medical records using our electronical medical records system; obtains information necessary to upload into patient charts.
- Enters providers orders for tests, procedures, into computer system and performs the necessary follow-up when results are received.
EDUCATION and CERTIFICATION
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Prior administrative or clerical experience in a clinical or community-based setting highly preferred
- Must be a certified Medical Assistant/ Phlebotomist
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of one (1) year clinical work experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and EHR systems
- Basic to intermediate computer knowledge and skills
- Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards
- Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be highly flexible; able and willing to handle a variety of tasks
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work some Saturday’s (if needed)
