The Center for Black Women’s Wellness (CBWW) is a community-based nonprofit organization that provides free and low-cost services to empower underserved women and their families, toward physical, mental and economic wellness. CBWW offers the following comprehensive services: women’s health, primary care and mental health services; health education and promotion programs; perinatal case management services; and financial literacy and self-employment training.
POSITION SUMMARY
CBWW is seeking an experienced and dependable PRN Medical Assistant / Community Health Specialist to provide flexible clinical support within the Wellness Clinic.
The position supports Nurse Practitioners and patients throughout the clinical visit, including intake, vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen processing, examination room preparation, EMR documentation, and patient follow-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet, register, and prepare patients for clinical visits.
- Obtain and document vital signs, chief complaints, medications, allergies, and patient history as directed.
- Assist providers during examinations and approved clinical procedures.
- Perform venipuncture and finger-stick blood collection.
- Collect, label, process, store, and prepare specimens for transport.
- Verify patient identifiers and provider-authorized laboratory orders.
- Prepare, clean, disinfect, and stock examination rooms.
- Complete accurate Medical Assistant documentation in the EMR
- Assist with Patient follow-up, referrals, appointments, and patient portal navigation.
- Support women’s health, GYN, STI, and preventive care visits.
- Assist with insurance eligibility and patient intake when assigned.
- Support administrative clinic activities as needed.
- Follow HIPAA, infection control, patient safety, and CBWW clinical procedures.
Laboratory Order Requirement
Medical Assistants do not independently order laboratory or diagnostic testing.
The PRN Medical Assistant may collect and process specimens based on provider authorized orders but may not independently:
- Add laboratory tests.
- Remove tests.
- Substitute tests.
- Modify an existing provide order.
- Determine which laboratory testing a patient requires.
Any unclear or conflicting order must be reviewed with the licensed provider before processing.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy certification required
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Current Medical Assistant certification, or documented competency and approved equivalent
- Phlebotomy training, certification, or documented competency.
- Demonstrated competency with venipuncture.
- Previous outpatient clinical experience.
- Basic EMR and computer skills.
- Strong patient-service and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow clinical protocols.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One or more years of Medical Assistant experience.
- Women’s Health, GYN,, primary care, or community health experience.
- Strong specimen-processing and phlebotomy experience.
- Experience serving underserved patient populations
PRN SCHEDULE
This is an as-needed position with no guaranteed minimum hours. PRN staff may provide coverage for absences, increased patient volume, specialty clinics, outreach events, and other operational needs.
